Covered Bridges
One of the most significantly historically qualities of Columbia and Montour counties are the area’s twenty-five covered bridges, the third largest concentration in PA. Visitors from all over the world come to see the antiqued craftsmanship used to construct these spans. No two bridges are alike as workers incorporated the surrounding landscape into the construction of each bridge.
Columbia County was the home to only one of two sets of twin covered bridges in the country – the East and West Paden Bridges. Sadly, during the June 2006 Flood, the swollen Huntington Creek swept away the West Paden Covered Bridge. Plans are currently underway to reconstruct the West Paden Covered Bridge. We will keep you updated on its process!
