kayak skills on this lovely stretch of river! Our ‘Canal Cruise’ is a 12-river-mile trip between Bloomsburg and Danvillewith stops at several fascinating, historical canal features. Summer resident birds have returned and many are nesting. Join us as we explore several habitats to find some of these summer birds. We’ll walk along a woodland, through fields and hedgerows and past some ponds. We’ll listen for songs and calls as well as identify birds by sight. Plan to spend time outdoors and bring binoculars and field guide if you have them.  Meet in the Visitors Bureau.

The Benton Volunteer Fire Company is holding its annual flower sale where they have a large variety of flowers, hanging baskets, plants, and vegetables. This is a perfect place to pick up a gift for Mother’s Day. The sale runs from 9am-5pm each day.

Lake Took-A-While, Susquehanna Riverlands

Presenter: Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Columbia County Bassmasters, Borough of Berwick and PPL Susquehanna Riverlands

For the fifth year in a row, the Riverlands will host a free Family Fishing Education Program for families with children ages 8 to 15. We’ll even provide the fishing equipment.

The event is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and Columbia County Bassmasters Association, in conjunction with PPL and the Berwick Borough Community Policing Program.

The program will include a welcome and introduction, presentations on fishing regulations and licenses, equipment, knots, rigging and baiting, casting, equipment and boat displays, and a family fishing session. Lunch will be provided for participants. We will award prizes and take photos of the fish that are caught. Children do not need a fishing license for this event but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. More information can be found at the Fish and Boat Commission website at www.fish.state.pa.us.

The Mount Carmel Lions Club is hosting its 15th anniversary Oak Street Festival May 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Arts & Crafts, live entertainment, food, games and much more will be featured.  Come and visit and help the LIONS help their community.
