THE NATURE OF AMERICA
Date & Time:July 3, 2009: 7pm - 8:30pm
Description:America sometimes gets a bad rap on conservation. But despite the fact that environmentalism is sometime thought to be the territory of hippies and other fringe elements, America has really been at the forefront of the conservation movement from long before the time there was an America. Just in time for the Fourth of July, Clem McIntyre presents this exploration of the history of conservation in our country, from the Native Americans and the pilgrims through Thomas Jefferson and Teddy Roosevelt and on up to today. You’ll see that an attitude of gratitude towards the land is as American as baseball and apple pie.

Date & Time:July 25, 2009 thru July 26, 2009: -
Description:An event to re-create or re-enact many of the key events that took place in 1864when Union Troops occupied Benton, PA. The event will be employing a variety of media, locations, and activities in order to educate, entertain, and enlighten an audience consisting of history buffs, curiosity seekers, and families who want something for their children rather than mindless entertainment. This event should appeal to a wide range of Pennsylvanians because the events of 1864 were of an extremely important nature regarding the history and culture of the area. Because there are many myths and inaccuracies surrounding this, we will be presenting a historically accurate weekend filled with a one act play, several dramatic vignettes throughout the community, Civil War music, dancing, and military re-enactments. All of these will have discussion periods before or after each program. Demonstrations will be held at strategic points: spinning, churning butter, milking a cow, blacksmithing, quilting, and military camp life.
